Olympic champion Max Whitlock hands out prizes at NHGC’s first compeition


YOUNG NHGC gymnasts were thrilled to meet Olympic champion Max Whitlock at the club’s first-ever in-house competition.

About 80 children took part in the event at the Noak Hill Sports Complex on Sunday, November 25.

They demonstrated their skills on vault, floor and through a body conditioning routine in the first event of its kind at the club, which opened in March 2017.

Afterwards the prizes were handed out by Max, the UK’s top gymnast who has won multiple global titles including floor and pommel horse gold at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

All performed with distinction and group winners were Ruby Rae Turner, Aijana Eve Ssekwanda, Maci Bailey Punter, Eowyn Wescott, Evie Baldwin, Jessica Skinner Kacie-Leigh Cooper, Sienna Star Ssekwanda and Lily Rummell.

Chris Cooper, father of Kacie-Leigh, was one of many parents in attendance to watch the competition.

He said: “It was a great day and I was very proud to see Kacie-Leigh demonstrate the skills she has learned at the club.

“My younger daughter Isabelle also took part and it was nice to see so many families from the community gathered for the event.”
